Director - XLRI Jamshedpur

Fr. E. Abraham, S.J. is currently the Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, one of the premier business schools in the country. Prior to his taking over as Director of XLRI on January 1, 2008, Fr. Abraham was Director, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar from 2000-2007 and Director of XLRI from 1989-1994.

A Jesuit priest, Fr. Abraham obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations from XLRI Jamshedpur in 1978. Thereafter, he obtained his doctorate in Human Resources Development from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad under the guidance of Dr. T.V. Rao of IIM Ahmedabad. He has been Member on the Board of Governors of many prestigious institutions, both in India as well as abroad.

Fr Abraham is currently Member, Board of Directors, Asian Institute of Management, Manila, International Association of Jesuit Business Schools [IAJBS], and Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS). He is also President, Xavier Association of Management Institutes, (XAMI); and Founder President of Indian Association of Autonomous Business Schools (IAABS). He also holds eminent positions on several important boards in the country, such as Vice Chairman, Board of Governors (XLRI), Member, Board of Governors (XIM Bhubaneswar); Member, Senate (National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur); Executive Member, Academic Council of National University of Law, Management & Science, Meghalaya, Founding Member of XIME Society and a Member BOG, Bangalore. He is also a Member of the Executive Committee of Jamshedpur Management Association. His contribution to each of these positions has been singular.

Fr. Abraham has held several eminent positions in the past. To mention a few : he was Member, Advisory Board, School of Business, Loyola University Chicago, USA; he was also Vice Chairman, Board of Governors, Director, and Founder Dean of XIM Bhubaneswar; Member Board of Governors, IRMA, Anand; Member, Board of Directors, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd, Dhanbad; and Member, Executive Council, Central University, Jharkhand. More importantly, he was the Founder Secretary of National HRD Network and a Past President of the Association of Indian Management Schools. Fr. Abraham was a member of the Board of NIT Rourkela. Besides, he was a member of the All India Board of Management Studies; Member, National Board of Accreditation, AICTE; Chairman of the Management Evaluation Accreditation Committee [MEAC] of NBA; Member, Regional Council, AICTE; Member of Norms and Standards of Management Education of AICTE, Member of the Academic Committee of NIRD, Hyderabad.

The National HRD Network conferred on Fr Abraham the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD in 2010. The Association of Indian Management Schools conferred on him the prestigious RAVI J. MATHAI NATIONAL FELLOW AWARD on August 27, 2012 for his exemplary contribution to the field of management education.

His interest in research has led in building a research-driven environment at XLRI during his earlier tenure by supporting the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). He helped start Joint FPM in HRD with the Academy of HRD, Ahmedabad and XLRI. He started FPM in XIM Bhubaneswar, and helped IRMA set up their FPM when he was its board member for 13 years.

A personality with a keen mind, he is always in pursuit of setting higher goals for the institute he is leading. As Director of XLRI, he is helping build a world-class institute, thereby making XLRI a "global institute" where faculty, researchers, and students can exchange ideas, and engage in joint publications.
